Porto Ercole is a hamlet of the municipality of Monte Argentario, in the province of Grosseto. With Porto Santo Stefano, it is one of the two largest villages that form the commune.
Porto Ercole, with its historic center, has won the recognition of the most beautiful villages of Italy in 2014. The historic center, perfectly preserved, is surrounded by the 15th century wall and the beautiful Santa Barbara square, home to the old governor's palace, where you can admire the splendid panorama of the harbor. The country is also unique because it is surrounded by the four Spanish fortresses, undoubtedly a testimony to what was Porto Ercole during Spanish domination. Porto Ercole is also famous for art enthusiasts as it is the place where Michelangelo Merisi, Caravaggio lived his last moments of life and his remains lie in the old San Sebastian cemetery in the center of the village.

Porto Santo Stefano is an enchanting seaside village, the bay is dominated by the Spanish fortress of 15 sec, home to the archaeological museum of submersible memories and ax masters. The belvedere offers a breathtaking view of the harbor and the beautiful promenade, designed by Giorgrtto Giugiaro and the new beautiful square with its adjoining beach making it unique in its kind.
